Mas des Rocailles
… Beautifully appointed villa in an idyllic setting …
This three-bedroom house combines modern convenience with old-world charm. Although just a short drive or cycle from Lourmarin, it is a little paradise of calm and tranquility set among fields and forest.
Mas de Rocailles is located 3km outside Lourmarin, one of the lively and most glamorous villages in the Luberon. Lourmarin’s numerous boutiques and galleries, its 18 restaurants and its burgeoning and popular Friday market attest to its status as a prime tourist destination.
Set against mountains and farmland, and surrounded by huge green oak trees, Mas des Rocailles, has been transformed from a 200-year-old sheepfold into a comfortable, three-double-bedroom villa.
Designed to a very high standard, Mas de Rocailles has an elegant and relaxing atmosphere indoors, including a large open fireplace in the comfortable sitting room. The generously sized eat-in kitchen has been renovated with a high-quality finish, and has all the modern appliances you could possibly need, including fridge-freezer, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, coffee machine, microwave and crockery/cutlery. Central heating is provided by radiators.
Just off the kitchen is a laundry/utility room with washing machine and ironing facilities. Full linen is available as well as pool towels and this is changed weekly.
Up a spiral staircase in the centre of the building, this lovely home has three large, light-filled double bedrooms. There are two large bathrooms, one with a generous contemporary wetroom shower, basin and adjacent toilet. The second bathroom has a large bath, basin and separate shower, plus there's a second separate toilet room with basin.
Outside is pretty as a picture; there's a traditional rock garden (jardin de rocailles in French, hence the villa's name) with a large fountain enveloped in lilies. The garden is well established and the heady aroma of lavender will surround you as you lounge in any of the charming, secluded spots in the garden. The property's garden, with spacious terrace and a lovely relaxing pool area, make it a little hidden paradise.
There is also plenty of parking under shady trees.
• Mas du Bassin and Mas des Rocailles are two adjacent houses separated by a typical Provençal garden of olive, cyprus and fig trees and an abundance of lavender and rosemary around a central fountain. These two houses can be booked together as Les Tuilières (to accommodate up to 12 people).
